L'ormai anziano Flaviano Labò valeva, come interprete, circa quanto Domingo e Carreras insieme in uno studio discografico...Cantò la sua aria con passione, e il pubblico andò in delirio. Gli fu gettata una rosa dal loggione. Lui la raccolse, la infilò nell'armatura e cantò il resto dell'opera con la sua rosa al fianco. Questi fantasmi dell'opera, gesti di una tradizione antica, sono quelli che continuano a farmi andare in teatro.

The already mature Flaviano Labò was on a par, as a performer, with Domingo and Carreras together in a recording studio. He sang his arias with passion and the public
went wild. A rose was thrown to him from the balcony. He picked it up, put it into his armour and sang the rest of the opera with his rose beside him. These ghosts of the opera, these gestures from old traditions, are what keep me going to the theater.
